I loathe rabbits

It’s true. I hate rabbits. I know they’re cute and soft and harmless. They’re also ridiculously stupid.

There are four dogs living in my house. They run around the fully-fenced backyard many times every day. Their scents have to be all over the place – all four dogs, thank goodness, have relatively healthy digestive systems and pee and poop in the yard on a regular basis. Yes, we do clean it up every day – but you would think wildlife could still sniff them out.

Our neighbors to either side have no pets. None. Not a one. Their yards are free of any potential bunny-hazards.

And what do the too-stupid-to-live rabbits do? Build nests in our backyard. Where Booker finds them out and joyfully runs around the yard with nest-material hanging out of his mouth. We have no idea if any baby bunnies were consumed. Booker isn’t feeling all that terrific today, and we know raw food doesn’t agree with him, so it is possible.

To be awfully honest – I really wasn’t all that interested in the fate of the baby bunnies. It was pouring rain, Booker was running around like a nut job and I wanted to keep him away from the nest. And I wanted to go inside, get dry, and eat my dinner.

So I took the cowardly way out. I moved an exercise pen around the area of the nest (after Booker was safely inside), and didn’t investigate further.

This morning the next was all covered up. We’re hoping the mother rabbit found her way into the pen and took care of her litter. And we hope they grow up quickly and get out of our yard.
