Happy, Safe, Occupied Dogs!
Kongs are a necessity for anyone who crate-trains her dog, or anyone who wants to keep her dog happy, safe, occupied and quiet. Dog behaviorists tell us that if the dog is occupied for the first 15 minutes you are gone, he will settle happily. Kongs are the tool to use to achieve this bliss! All of our dogs dash to their crates when they see us reaching for their Kongs. They know that a treat or a dab of peanut butter will be inside, perhaps with a crunchy piece of kibble hiding in the bottom, as well. They don't even notice when we go to the door! Boredom and separation anxiety are the major reasons dogs don't do well when they're alone.
The Kong provides entertainment and stress relief - even after the treat is gone, the Kong is still there to chew on and play with.
Experiment with fillers!
Experiment with a Kong - insert a treat in the Kong, a dab of peanut butter, plain yogurt or even a squirt of cheese-in-a-can to see what your little dog will like the best!

For really powerful chewers, go up a size or two. Always inspect your dog's Kong. If he's making inroads on the natural rubber, it's time for a new one!
